Blackjack is a popular casino card game like Bingo, Poker, Roulette, Slot Machines and other casino games.  The object is to acquire twenty-one points without going bust and to beat the dealer’s hand.  The players play against the house in Blackjack, not against the other players.  Play begins with each player betting the amount he wants to bet.  This may be his only bet of the hand, but not always.  There are situations where additional betting opportunities become available.  After the bets are placed, the dealer will deal.  A special situation comes into play when the dealer has an ace showing.  If the house rules allow, the dealer, without looking at the down card, will ask each player if they want Insurance.  The dealer has one down card and if it is a ten, then the dealer will have Blackjack and automatically win the hand.  The player is being asked if he wants to bet that the dealer has Blackjack.  The player can bet up to half of his original bet like in Slot Games.  If the dealer has Blackjack, the player will collect his insurance bet at a two to one pay off. He loses his initial bet.  The player breaks even in this situation if the player has blackjack.

It is up to the player whether or not he wants to take insurance.  Most of the experts advise against insurance bets.  If the dealer doesn’t have Blackjack, the player can end up losing his original bet and the insurance bet.
